Your screener questions are vital for you to recruit exactly the applicants you need.

You will want to screen for all the relevant criteria they need to meet (remember that the 'Audience' section will likely cover some of these).

We recommend:

  • Including some open questions to screen for articulateness.
  • Make each question 'Required' so applicants must complete each question
  • Add skip logic after you have finished adding your questions.
  • Note: Never ask for a respondent's personal information in any of your screener questions. This includes phone numbers and email addresses.

The recommended screener length is 8 - 15 questions (respondents will be told how many questions before they start).

Types of Questions

There are 6 types of questions for you to choose from, outlined below.

Question Type

Details
Radio (Single select)
This is a question with multiple pre-populated answer fields and applicants can only choose one option as their answer.
For each answer, you must determine if by selecting that answer they ‘Qualify’ or ‘Disqualify’. If you select ‘other’, a free text box will be available for them to add their own answer.

Applicants do not get any notification of Qualifying or Not Qualifying when they complete the screener.

Check box (Multi- select)
This is a question with multiple pre-populated answer fields and applicants can choose more than one option as their answer.

For each answer, you must assign one of the following:
'May select’: choosing this answer is not mandatory to qualify
‘Must select’: choosing this answer is mandatory to qualify
'Disqualify': choosing this answer will disqualify them.

If you assign multiple MUST SELECT answers, a respondent must select all of them to be marked as Qualified for this question.

Applicants do not get any notification of Qualifying or Not Qualifying when they complete the screener.

Multi-line text box
This is a question with a free text answer field with capacity for multiple lines of text for the respondent to write their answer.

Single-line text box
This is a question with a free text answer field with capacity for one line of text for the respondent to write their answer.

Number Box
This is a question with an answer box that will only accept numerical values.
Ensure to include the value within your question, eg hours per day, times per week, etc.

Slider (number selector)
You will be prompted to add a minimum and maximum value.
Ensure to include the slider value within your question, eg hours per day, times per week, etc.

The respondent can move the slider left and right to determine their answer.

'Required' Check Box

For each question, you have the option to select the 'Required' Check Box.

This means the respondent must answer the question in order to progress to the next question.

Assigning Skip Logic to your questions

Add skip logic after you have finished adding your questions.

You will see 'Skip Logic' available as an option on 'Radio (single select)' and 'Check box (multi- select)' questions.

Adding skip logic to certain questions lets you create a custom pathway through the screener.

Skip logic makes your questions skip forward based on how the participants answer the current question.

Logic fields appear to allow you to choose what should happen/ where the respondent should go if they answer in a particular way eg, if someone picks a particular answer you can set it so they will automatically be taken straight to the end of the survey or to a particular question within the screener, etc.

Type
Skip Logic
Radio (single select)
Radio skip logic allows for one additional layer of logic to be applied to each answer beyond Qualified (1) or Disqualified (2);
The additional logic layer can designate which question/ which part of a screener a participant moves to based on the answer.

Check box (multi- select)
Checkbox skip logic allows for one or multiple layers of logic to be applied using AND/OR logic beyond the answer level logic of May Select (1), Must Select (2), Disqualify (3).

You can choose single answer logic or multiple answer logic here.

If you select 'End of Survey', the applicants will not be shown any other questions and so cannot answer all questions.

We recommend avoiding 'End of Survey' unless you are absolutely certain you want to disqualify applicants based on one particular answer.

If you set 'Disqualify' an answer as you qualification option, and you do not use 'End of Survey' the applicants will be able to answer all questions.

You will be able to see each answer and you can then decide if you do want to qualify them.

If for any reason you wish to loosen your screening criteria later in your recruit, you can review all of your 'Not Qualified' applicants and decide which ones you do now wish to 'Qualify'.

Once you have added your questions, they have been saved to the draft Recruit.

Each time you save a question it is saved fully on your Recruit, you will not lose it.

Qualified or Not Qualified?

Applicants do not get any notification of Qualifying or Not Qualifying when they complete the screener.

All applicants that complete a screener will appear for you in your Recruit for you to review, whether they have qualified or not qualified.

Setting an answer to 'Disqualify' does not automatically disqualify them from view or your recruit; it will simply mark them as disqualified for you to review.
